Male Grooming

Male grooming is a crucial part of being a well rounded Makeup Artist. We teach you how to get your male client ready for Photography or Film. This "No Makeup" Makeup technique is customized to correct issues that men face using makeup. We combine it with traditional makeup theory in order to create a flawless male grooming.

Here are some items to carry in your male grooming makeup kit:

1) Skincare

  • Makeup remover wipes to cleanse the skin
  • Moisturizer to add hydration to the skin
  • Chapstick or a matte, clear lip moisturizer like that doesn't look like a lipstick or lipgloss when applied.
  • Mattifying primer to take away shine from the skin and even to apply on bald heads

2) Base

  • Color Corrector - Apply to areas of discoloration. i.e. orange tones on 5 O'Clock shadow, green on red skin
  • Concealer - Spot conceal dark spots that don't require color correction
  • Foundation - Use a light coverage to even skin tone. You can mix moisturizer with your foundation to thin it out.
  • Translucent Powder - Set the skin and take away shine.
  • Optional - Setting Spray - Spray last to ensure that makeup will last and remain matte.

3) Brow products for hair line/facial hair fills

4) Clear or Brown Mascara for brows and lashes

5) Makeup cape and paper towels to protect clothing

Demo: Watch the attached video for a full demo on male grooming.

*Bonus Tip: Lip exfoliation is a great makeup prep for both men and women. If you don't have a lip scrub in your kit, you can make one. Carry a few packets of sugar in your kit. When you're ready, mix a packet of sugar with your lip moisturizer (I like Aquaphor). Give it to your client to apply to their lips and remove with a wipe.

Optional Homework: Perform a makeover on a male model. Attach your pictures to the comments section of this module.

Your instructor will respond to your homework assignments within 2 business days.
